The IMW announces its new students in its Study Programme
88 people have heard today that they have been accepted onto the Institute’s worldwide Study Programme. They come from 26 countries, and will be offered the option of attending a Master of Wine seminar in Australia, Austria, or the United States. The highest proportion of applicants came from North America, followed by the UK, Hong Kong and China.
A record number of applicants applied to join the MW Study Programme this year – over 170 applications were received. Each applicant was assessed to check that they meet the Institute’s entry criteria; holding a wine qualification of at least WSET Diploma (or equivalent) in level and having at least three years’ experience in the wine trade. All applicants are also required to pass the Institute’s entry exam, which comprises a Theory and a Practical component.
Around 50% of those who applied this year were accepted, and will now also need to pass a Stage 1 Assessment at the end of their first year on the programme to progress to Stage 2 of the MW Study Programme, when they will be eligible to sit the MW Examination. This year, of the 86 who sat the Assessment, over 70% passed.
The Institute will announce new Masters of Wine on Monday, 5 September 2016.
