Australia to host the Institute of Masters of Wine 10th international Symposium

The Institute of Masters of Wine (IMW) has announced that Adelaide will host its next international Symposium in June 2022. The announcement was made at the closing ceremony of the Institute’s 9th international Symposium, ‘Living Wine’ in Logrono, Spain.
The four-day event in Australia will be co-hosted by Wine Australia from 21 to 24 June 2022, and will be the Institute’s 10th such event – an unparalleled opportunity to network, taste and learn about wine from a rich variety of international speakers. The Symposia are usually attended by around 450 participants.
Andreas Clark, CEO of Wine Australia said, ‘We’re thrilled to be hosting the world of wine in Adelaide in 2022 and look forward to showcasing Australia’s diverse and thriving wine scene, and our enviable epicurean culture. Australia’s creativity, passion and focus on innovation makes it the perfect destination to inspire leaders in wine and help shape the future of the industry.’
‘The IMW Symposium is the most important event for the Institute every four years’ says Adrian Garforth MW, the Vice-Chairman of the Institute ‘and that’s not just because we invite other experts to discuss challenges, innovations and trends, but also because we relish the chance to meet and re-meet hundreds of friends and colleagues from across the international wine world.’
Jane Masters MW, the Institute’s Chairman, knows Australia can deliver an exceptional wine experience, ‘I was one of a large group of Masters of Wine who visited Australia two years ago, and we are still talking about the extraordinary hospitality we received, and are also still remembering and discussing the diverse wines we tasted. It will be fascinating to see the evolution of Aussie wines since then.’
Adelaide is a gateway to 18 distinctive, world-renowned wine regions and more than 200 cellar doors within an hour’s drive of the city. There will also be opportunities for regions beyond South Australia to engage with visitors to the Symposium.

About the Institute of Masters of Wine (IMW)
The Institute of Masters of Wine (IMW) is a membership organisation with an exceptional international reputation. For almost 70 years, its members – the Masters of Wine (MWs) – have been at the forefront of leadership and expertise in the world of wine. The IMW’s mission is to promote excellence, interaction and learning across all sectors of the global wine community. MWs prove their comprehensive understanding of wine by passing the MW examination, recognised worldwide for its rigour and exacting standards. In addition to passing the examination, members must sign the code of conduct before they are entitled to use the initials MW. This requires them to act with honesty and integrity, and use every opportunity to share their knowledge of wine with others. Today, there are 370 Masters of Wine working in 28 countries. The membership encompasses winemakers, sommeliers, buyers, journalists, shippers, consultants, academics, educators and more. There are over 350 students in the MW study programme from over 40 countries.
