Matt Deller MW is the Chief Executive Officer for Wirra Wirra and Ashton Hills wineries.
Wirra Wirra Vineyards was originally established in 1894 by known South Australian eccentric and cricketer Robert Strangways Wigley. The winery prospered in its early days but eventually ran into disrepair and abandoned. In 1969 under the watchful eye of the late Greg Trott , Wirra Wirra was rebuilt from the remnants of two walls and some slate fermenting tanks. As with all subsequent Trott endeavors, it was the sheer magnitude and unlikeliness of the project that made it so attractive. Today Wirra Wirra is well known for intense, beautifully crafted McLaren Vale red wines and expressive, elegant Adelaide Hills whites, forging an enviable reputation as one of Australia’s most recognizable and leading wineries and the top rating in James Halliday’s Wine Companion for over a decade. It’s also a much-loved McLaren Vale destination for visitors where the message is not to take life too seriously – just winemaking!
Previously, Matt was Chief Global Sales and Marketing Officer for Villa Maria Estates in New Zealand and a Company Director on the Board of Primary Collaboration New Zealand (Shanghai). Prior to that he was based in the USA as Chief Operating Officer for TOR Wines Napa Valley, Chief Wine Officer for Wine Access, and as Director of Fine Wine Development for Constellation Brands, developing the sales strategy for Robert Mondavi Winery, The Prisoner Wine Company, Mount Veeder Winery and Ruffino Estates.
He is a member of the Governance Committee for the Institute of Masters of Wine and a member of the judging panel for the Wine Pinnacle Awards.
